LAVA Meeting: Monday, October 12
| October 12, 2009 | ||
| 7:30 pm | to | 10:30 pm |
Andrew Lowell, master Houdini artist, will be talking about his book, “Simultaneous Music, Animation and Sound Techniques with Houdini”, and Eric Medine/ MkUltra will build a video mixer using flash, php scripting, and Resolume that can mix any video straight out of YouTube. Afterwards, stick around for $2.75 margaritas at the bar up the street!

Andrew Lowell has worked in music recording/mixing for three years in LA, then taught college/graphics, then two years in 3d/fx for film. Most recently he has moved on to Vancouver to work on “the next big project”. He will be talking about his methods of combining different aesthetics, methods, and artwork with music/graphics.
He will also be talking about his book, “Simultaneous Music, Animation and Sound Techniques with Houdini.” This 250 page e-book is full of example files created for the intermediate Houdini user, music enthusiast, or pro looking for a better understanding of CHOPS. The techniques demystify a broad range of concepts in procedural animation, interaction with musical data, and sound/music generation.
Andrew’s personal interests deal with the interaction of visual and sonic perception, and he now uses Houdini as his main application because of it’s audio features and procedural nature. Andrew has used Houdini in production for a few years and worked as a visual effects artist at Rhythm and Hues, Ring of Fire, and most recently CIS Vancouver; on feature film and music video projects.
Andrew has a Bachelor of Arts in audio production and a video production minor, and worked as a freelance music recording and mixing engineer in Los Angeles out of college. Various productions and graphics interests eventually drew him into the world of graphics/CGI and has since worked on a variety of graphics projects, and also taught classes in 3D graphics for several years.
Eric Medine/MkUltra is a Los Angeles based VJ who performs irregularly and spends too much time writing code! He will be demonstrating the just-updated version of Resolume Avenue 3, now with Actionscript 3 support, fully customizable input parameters, and a custom built YouTube player.
