Casey Reas (www.reas.com) lives and works in Los Angeles where he is a Professor at UCLA’s Department of Design Media Arts. His software, prints, and installations have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions at museums and galleries in the United States, Europe, and Asia. With Ben Fry, Casey co-founded Processing, an open source programming language and environment, in 2001.

Reas will discuss his Process Compendium and Chronograph. The Process Compendium is a system of forms, behaviors, and instructions used to generate visual systems. Chronograph, created with Tal Rosner in 2011, is a large-scale architectural projection onto the Frank Gehry-designed New World Symphony campus in Miami.

Xárene Eskandar (www.tentativearchitecture.net) is a researcher, designer and media artist with a diverse background ranging from fashion and automotive design to architecture and live audio-visuals. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Design from University of Cincinnati, Department of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, MFA from Design Media Arts, UCLA, and is currently working towards a PhD in Media Arts and Technology, UCSB.

Drawing upon cultural anthropology, Xarene’s research is focused on the evolution of the symbiotic relationship of technology and the human with the aim of creating crossover points into dimensions and ecologies referred to as ‘utopia’, whether technological, architectural or social. Her interest lies in questions that debunk prescriptions within either of these categories, and to instead offer neolexia for our future hybrid bodies.
