although there’s no meetup this month (we’ll get back on track next month, promise!) a couple members of the LAVA community have been invited to perform at the Live Performers Meeting AV festival this month in Rome, Italy, from May 31st to June 3rd. Tim Abad, James Cui, and Eric Medine will be performing at the festival as well as teaching multimedia workshops.

VJ Tim Abad is a multimedia specialist from the United States. Seeing a need for 8-bit visuals in Los Angeles, he went home and hacked his 27 year old nintendo entertainment system into a visual theremin and recruited multiple others for thrashing. With an army of visual thermins, circuit bent nes’s, and a analog switcher, he offers live 8-bit video glitch chaos. Mentored by some of the best VJ’s in the United States since 2005, Tim is versed in many styles of live video performance, and has performed with countless top Electronic and mainstream recording artists at the largest music festivals, Vegas clubs, and EDM gatherings.
For the festival, Tim will be doing a 60 minute VJ set.
JAMES CUI (http://www.neuromixer.com)

For the festival, James will be performing with Mandy Mozart from Salzburg, a journey through electroacustic dancemusic and Nouveau Glitter eye candy. He will also be running an AV Mixer Pro Workshop, a hands-on workshop on how to master the AVmixer Pro VJ software. He will guide the students from overview to more advanced tips and tricks on how to use this powerful live visual performance software.
ERIC MEDINE (http://www.ericmedine.com)

Eric will be showing his video installation “AutoComplete Hive Mind Cannibals” (http://vimeo.com/35440751). This video installation project uses Google’s “autocomplete” function for such open ended questions such as “why does”,”why won’t”,”where is”,”how big”,”how small”,”when will”,”where can”,”who is”,”how do”, and “is there”. The results of these searches are the aggregate of all searches that have ever been made using these terms, and are displayed as text, which behaves like “food” for animated and programmatic “animals”. Search engines embody the collective mind of whoever has looked up anything on Google… and these animals eat that mind!
