Tuesday, September 28th– 3D for Vjs
Hello LAVA fans,
we have something really specific planned for the upcoming LAVA meeting on Tuesday, September 28th– 3D manipulation for VJs! We’re going to be showcasing the work of visualists, video artists, and vj’s that work specifically with 3D mapping, 3d animation, and building interactive 3D environments for video mixing.
Reza Ali will be showing his abstract 3D generative visuals using Processing, Dave Johnson (DJ) will be talking about his experience as Lead Visual Effects Artist working at Infinity Ward (creators of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 series of FPS video games) and demonstrating EffectsEd, Infinity Ward’s custom effects editor (originally written by Raven Software), and Eric Medine (MkUltra) will be demonstrating Isadora’s 3D mapping capability using 3D Studio Max.

Reza Ali is a designer/technologist/hybrid who is interested in everything from design to biology to art. Reza is currently a masters student in the Media Arts and Technology department at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Previously he graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with two B.S. (One in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and minors in Electronic Art and Product Design).

David (dj) Johnson is currently the Lead Visual Effects Artist working at Infinity Ward. He has been working in computer graphics professionally for 12 years and has shipped over 15 titles ranging from internet advergames to hits such as Halo3 and Modern Warfare 2. David has been published as a contributing author to the book “Introduction to Game Development” and was a recipient of a 2009 Visual Effects Society Award for the “Gulag Extraction” scene in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2″.
Eric Medine is a Los Angeles area artist working in multimedia and video art. He received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1996 and his Masters degree at the the Otis School of Art and Design in Los Angeles, California in 2006. While in Chicago he ran Drivethru Studios, a not-for-profit art gallery a dedicated to emerging artists working in painting, video, and sculpture. Currently he runs La-Va.org with James Cui (Vj Fader).
