You’re invited to join us for an evening of VJ presentations with VJ Fader (James Cui), who has recently returned from Beijing, and VJ Culture (Grant Davis) who will be talking about his recent video installation “The Gentleman’s Gaze” and his recent art residency in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
VJ Fader (www.vjfader.com) has recently returned from a 5 month stay in his motherland China. It gave him the opportunity to dig deeper into Processing (www.processing.org) by programming generative audio visualizers and exploring the boundary of experimental audio visual performance with Ableton Live and faderTouch, a custom rear projection touchscreen interface. Recent performances are his first solo DJ VJ set at resBox (http://www.steveallentheater.com/resbox) and an all Processing visual set for DJ John Tejada at NAMM after party. At this LAVA meeting, you will have the chance to see and touch his latest faderTouch prototype.
VJ Culture (Grant Davis) has been voted as one of the top Visual Artists in the world 3 years in a row by UK’s DJ Mag. He has performed at the Winter Olympics in Italy, Love-Evolution SF, SXSW, Detroit Electronic Music Festival, San Francisco Outside Lands and visual curator for Remix Hotel (WMC), AVit North America SF and Chicago. Plus, organizes the Video Riot 03-05. Grant has produced video installations at Santa Monica’s Glow 08, Transcinema 03. Grant just
completed a month long residency in Sao Paulo Brazil for House of Art. He has also toured with top music artists such as Beck, Deep Dish’s Sharam, Magnetic Poets, StarCulture and corporate tours with Heineken, Red Bull, Hennessey and Facebook.
About “The Gentleman’s Gaze”: The Gentleman’s Gaze is a dual projection video installation exposing one of our most vulnerable human moments, sleeping. The audience joins in the voyeuristic activity as they observe a woman lying on the bed. All the while a gentleman gazes through the bedroom window. The Gaze, use blob detection via MAX/jitter. A hacked Sony PS-EYE camera with bypass filter and IR illuminator is used to isolate human movement for triggering events. The gentleman in the window projection uses projection mapping techniques. Credit to John Taylor and Fernando Velazquez for MAX/Jitter programming.
